Ronald McDonald House Covid-19 Response
ABC News captured the swift response of the Ronald McDonald House in San Diego in reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our mission to serve families with sick children did not stop, but instead adapted to the circumstances. Our steadfast response consists of several new protocols throughout the Ronald McDonald House in San Diego geared toward providing families with a safer stay with us. To keep our guests safe, we now solely focusing on our two critical services – overnight stays for families and meals. We have reduced the amount of families staying with us from 56 to 25 families staying on the campus. We are also offering our guests grab-and-go meals in the cafeteria along with a cooler outside with bagged meals for families who come by to get meals while they spend time at the hospital.
Upon checking in to the Ronald McDonald House, guests
must have proof of a negative test result on a coronavirus test. Guests and
staff members are required to wear a face mask and social distancing is
strictly enforced. Additionally, visitors and staff get temperature checks and
health screenings once they enter the facility. Our response has costed extra funding
and we need your help! The Ronald McDonald House will be matching donations up
to $315,000 as we celebrate National Nonprofit Day. “We went out and asked people who love us, 'Would you
help us?' And they said, 'Yes.' Now we're asking others in the community who
know us to join in," says Day.
