The Ronald McDonald House of Charities hosts a virtual tailgate
COVID-19 has impacted our nations' workers tremendously. However, our Ronald McDonald House of Charities are not letting the pandemic stop our determination to help others. Volunteer hours have been cut short, but our fundraising events are still in full swing, just with more of a "virtual" style.
Spectrum 1 News captured our virtual tailgate event hosted by our Ronald McDonald House of Charities in Charlotte. The event was called Jerseys & Jewels and was held on Sept. 12, 2020. Christian Noguera, the reporter who covered the event, spoke with our CEO of the Charlotte location, Dennis Cubbedge, to get more insight on our motivation for this event. Cubbedge said, The needs are still real. The house is still running, families are still here."
We kicked-off our event at 6:30 p.m. where people logged on to the live event and participated in a silent and/or live auction. The participants were able to purchase an at-home Huddle Party Package, bid on auction items, and/or enter raffles for a chance to win signed NFL gear or a pair of diamond earrings. The Huddle Party Package consisted of cookies, a football, soda, a meal from Ronald McDonald House of Charities sponsor Rare Roots Hospitality, and beads to wear on game day. Some of the auction items included a beach weekend or mountain weekend getaway, VIP concert experience, wine sampling, gift cards, and a complete golfing experience at some of Charlotte's finest courses.
All of the proceeds made at the event went back to the Ronald McDonald House of Charities charity fund. Our CEO Cubbedge further commented, "Right now people feel so isolated in their homes, but this is a chance to really get beyond what you've been quarantined in and be a part of something that's so important to this community and so important to this entire globe."
On Spectrum 1 News's website, you can also find a link to Christian Noguera reporter package where she provided interviews with our CEO and visuals of some of the prizes that were being auctioned off. We couldn't have made this event possible without the help of our corporate sponsors like McDonald's and Rare Roots Hospitality.
